emoticon Linux tip: use submount Lenz Sun, 21 Dec 2003 18:52:04 +0100
This makes working with CDs/DVDs much easier on SuSE Linux:
  • Install package submount
  • Edit /etc/fstab and change the mount options for /media/cdrom and /media/dvd:
    /dev/dvd /media/dvd subfs fs=cdfss,ro 0 0
    /dev/cdrom /media/cdrom subfs fs=cdfss,ro 0 0
  • Now mount the devices (no need to insert a medium).
  • Be happy to be able to work with these devices without having to mount/unmount them all the time
The only downturn: YaST seems to be confused by this and tries to mount the DVD nevertheless. I will try to find a workaround for this.
